Up for auction is this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, finished in orange with black stripes and full black vinyl roof over a black interior, running a 440 cubic inch V8 with a four speed manual transmission, and 19,163 miles on the clock.
This is a very clean and mostly original R/T that comes equipped with the rare and desirable Track Pack, with additional upgrades and a thorough mechanical build. It’s a great example of why these Challengers made such a strong impression on the public – great style, big power, and tons of options tailor made for every level of enthusiast. That the current Challenger is so clearly a direct design descendant of this car, and still works so well, points to the essential goodness of this personal coupe. This example clearly had a recent mechanical restoration, and is very clean top to bottom, but still being numbers matching, with proper VIN stampings in the right places, is what marks this one out as a special car. Both cosmetically and mechanically excellent, this Challenger R/T is the right car for a prospective buyer looking for the no-excuses example of the iconic coupe.
The exterior of this R/T is in excellent condition. The Hemi Orange finish is in outstanding shape, with no visible flaws. Panel gaps are even, and color tint is even ac ross all panels. The satin black stripes both on the hood and sides are free of visible flaws, and are evenly applied with proper alignment. In front, the nose is in great shape with no stone chips. All chrome trip is in clean condition – badges, hood pins, grill, and bumper are all properly affixed and free from pitting or dull finishes.
In the rear, the concours quality cosmetics continue. The bumpers, badging, and chrome trim are all properly aligned and in excellent shape. The adjustable, raised “Go Wing” spoiler in black is glossy and cleanly attached to the trunk,
Up top, the black vinyl covering the roof is in exceptional shape, with no sign of color fade or wear, and though is most likely not original, is in proper placement. The rear window is the proper larger size, and all glass is in excellent condition. The wheels are the proper Rally style, with chrome trim rings, with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires with raised white lettering.
The interior of this R/T is excellent and factory-correct. The high-back front bucket seats are in great condition and look unused, with no dirt or wear. All touch points, including armrests, wooden-rim steering wheel, and pistol-grip shifter are all looking brand new. Wood applique trim and chrome all are excellent, with no cosmetic flaws and proper alignment.
Dashboard and instruments are both in excellent condition, and also factory-correct, down to the AM radio, and the factory-installed optional tachometer. The dash top is clean and warp free, and has no color fade. All instruments are in proper working order, and are supplemented with aftermarket gauges mounted beneath the dash for oil pressure and water temp.
Equipment here includes the 440 cubic inch V8 and four-speed manual transmission, both of which are numbers matching to this R/T. As a Trak Pack car, it is also equipped with Dana 60 Sure Grip rear axle[ML1] , with a 3.54 ratio. Upgrades include the Edelbrock air cleaner and valve covers, with a Six Pack mounted up top. Underneath, the gloss black undercarriage is indicative of a recent restoration, All exhaust plumbing and lines suggest little to no use since mechanical work was completed, with a complete lack of any kind of corrosion
