    Up for auction is this 1974 Porsche 914, finished in Sunflower Yellow over a black interior, powered by a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine running through a five-speed manual transmission, with 15,988 miles on the clock.

    This is a comprehensively restored example of the 1970’s “entry-level” Porsche. Co-developed with VW, it was originally intended as a joint model for VW and Porsche, only to wind up exclusively Porsche as a result of corporate changes in leadership and marketing strategies.

    This 914 recently had a new rotary A/C system with all supporting parts installed, along with a full mechanical refresh. It will also come with its Porsche certificate of authenticity.

    Exterior

    The exterior of this Porsche is in very good condition, the refinishing the original sunflower yellow color is glossy with consistent color tint across all panels.

    Up front, the slanted front nose is remarkably free of pitting or stone chips, and the rubber portions of the bumper and overriders are clean and free from fade. Lights and lenses are in good condition and free from sun fade, and the pop up headlights operate properly. In the back, the condition it's also very good, with both the taillight lenses and the center red reflector presenting in as new condition.

    Rubber bumper pieces are again in very good shape, and the chrome bumper is glossy and free from nicks or damage. Along the sides, the body is free from door dings or nicks, and all trim is present and properly applied. The lower rocker panels are painted as satin black, as originally presented from the factory, and are free from dirt or color fade. Up top, the targa-style removable fiberglass roof is in excellent condition, with no color fade or chips, and latches securely. The 914 rides on the factory correct Mahle wheels, with newer tires in 185/70R15 size.

    Interior

    The interior of the 914 is in excellent condition, with black vinyl presenting an as-new appearance.

    The black bucket seats are in excellent shape, with no wear noted, and firm factory padding. Touch points like the armrests, steering wheel, and shifter all present in and as new condition, with no worn spots or issues with the control surfaces.

    Instrumentation is mostly original with the exception of the radio, which is a Nakamichi head unit in proper operating condition.

    Mechanical

    This 914 is powered by an air-cooled, two-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine, which is a number matching motor.

    The 914 engine is equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, with excellent drivability, and the five-speed manual transmission had a new clutch kit installed.

    Underneath, the chassis is sound and free from rust, with some surface corrosion on bare metal exposed parts. Both the engine and transmission case present in as-new condition, clean and free from any road grime or evidence of seepage or leaks.
