Up for sale is this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10thAnniversary Coupe, finished in Silver over a Gray interior, powered by a 6.6-liter V8 running through a three-speed automatic transmission, with 29,667 miles on the clock.
This Trans Am was produced in 1979, the last year for the iconic 6.6 liter V8, and is a Tenth Anniversary edition with specific trim and colors. This example was with the original owner until August of 2020. It is now offered for sale by the second and current owner, who stored it and only took it out for summer car shows. This is a numbers-matching, very original example, with low mileage, and while it has some paint flaws in a few places, it’s decals and badging are intact and in excellent condition. Overall, a very clean car, ready to go for the next owner.
The exterior of this Trans Am is in good condition, with some wear and scratches visible. The finish is glossy with good color tint consistency, though some front panels have a clear coat applied. Panel gaps are tight and consistent, and sheet metal look good, though some evidence of body filler is noted on the leading bottom edge of the passenger door.
Up front, the vertical crease on the center of the bumper shows some wear and paint damage, along with holes for the license plate frame, but the bumper cover itself is straight and aligned properly. On the hood, the paint is in very good condition, with both the Firebird and “6.6 litre” decals in excellent condition.
In back, the bumper again shows some mild contact scrapes and marks, but the cover itself appears intact and sound. Rear taillight lenses and trim are in very good condition, and both the decals and the original dealer badge are in very good condition.
Along the flanks, the paint and trim is in very good condition. Pinstripes and decals are all in the proper factory location and complete, with the plastic wheel arch flares in very good condition as well.
This Trans Am has smoked glass removable T-Tops, which are in very good condition, and seal properly.
The wheels are the original 15” aluminum alloy turbo fans, and are in excellent condition, wrapped with raised white-letter Good Year Eagle GTII tires.
The interior of the Trans Am is in very good condition overall. Seats are a gray leather and are very clean, with minimal evidence of use, consistent color and lack of wear. The original factory carpeting in gray is also clean, with no color fade or thin spots visible.
The dashboard features the machined aluminum overlay in excellent condition, and equipment is factory original down to the optional 8-track stereo. The dashtop is clean, with no warping or cracks from heat and sun.
The 403 cubic-inch V8 is a numbers-matching engine for this trans Am, along with the 3-speed automatic transmission.
1979 was the last year the Trans Am came with this iconic Oldsmobile motor, and this example is equipped with the standard equipped 4-barrel carburetor. Drivability is reported as proper and smooth, with no stumbling issues for the motor, and smooth quick shifting from the automatic transmission.
Underneath, the chassis of the Trans Am is in straight, with some surface corrosion on bare metal parts, but no structural issues noted. Factory undercoating along the floor pans and rockers are still present.
